Virus and cancer: can you catch cancer? Some tumour viruses have made essential contributions to two major areas of cancer research. Firstly, viruses were fundamental to the discovery and analysis of cellular growth control pathways and the synthesis of modern concepts of cancer biology and, secondly, to the identification of the etiology of some cancers.
